Ceemet wraps up Autumn General Assembly at a critical time for the MET industry

On 10 October, Ceemet held its 46th General Assembly (GA) in Helsinki, Finland, bringing together its membership from 20 EU and non-EU countries. The GA was this time hosted by Ceemet member, Technology Industries of Finland.

Hubert Mongon, Chairman of the Ceemet Board, mentioned in his speech the symbolism of gathering in Finland. ‘’Finland has long embodied the art of resilience and knows what it means to safeguard sovereignty, to innovate against the odds, and to thrive at the edge of Europe, especially with the neighbours we share.’’

Mr Mongon reminded European MET employers that in the context of the current geopolitical crises, resilience is never an accident. It is built, deliberately, by nations that believe in themselves and invest in their future. ‘’Europe must do the same with urgency, with unity, and with vision,’’ he said.

Today, Europe stands at its own inflection point. The pressures we face are undeniable: geopolitical instability on our borders, the accelerating race for new technologies, the energy transition, and the need to ensure security not only for our nations, but for our industries and our people. These are not challenges for tomorrow; they are the tests of our time, and they demand answers now. The Metal, Engineering, and Technology-based sectors are at the heart of those answers, and we want to ensure that everyone in the capitals and in Brussels understands how much resilience and vision it will take to defend Europe, our economy, and thus the welfare of our citizens.

During the General Assembly, Ceemet members also exchanged on how artificial intelligence is tackled at the national level and opened a debate on the revision of their strategy in Brussels.

Ceemet has also published a new policy paper on investment in MET industries, which can be found here.
