On 7 November 2023, Ceemet represented the MET sector as part of the employers’ delegation in the second social partner consultation on the sixth update of the Carcinogens, Mutagens or Reprotoxic Substances at work Directive.
The Ceemet Secretariat highlighted to the Commission, and our trade union counterparts, the importance of getting the balance right when legislating in this area, particularly in relation to welding fumes. The Secretariat highlighted the diverse nature of welding which exists in our sector and the need to ensure we do not label all welding activities as carcinogenic.
Ceemet will now put forward our position in writing to the European Commission and hope to see a balanced legislative proposal, on this particularly pertinent topic for industry, in the coming months.
