Portuguese Minister outlines EU Presidency priorities

Ana Mendes Godinho, Portugal’s Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, addressed the Ceemet General Assembly at the beginning of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Council.

The six month Presidency has an ambitious agenda, and some tricky dossiers to bring to an end such as Trilogue on the revision of the social security coordination.

Common interests and different solutions

During her speech, the Portuguese Minster highlighted that only together a compromise can be found on any issue as we share the same values.

The employers of the metal, engineering and technology-based industries asked for a pragmatic approach to ensure that labour mobility is not hampered in a phase of the pandemic where companies need to increase their productivity in order to survive.

Consult industry

In order to design informed solutions to economic, societal and environmental challenges, consulting industry is a first step. Ceemet and its members have contributed constructively in the past with the purpose of finding solutions for problems of the real economy and society.

Minister Mendes Godinho having felt that attitude ended her participation with an offer to stay in touch, to connect the dots to make the EU fairer in a way that is comfortable for everybody.
