Ceemet is a recognised European social partner at the industry sector level, promoting competitiveness through social dialogue, consultation and joint action with our European-level counterpart, industriAll European Trade Union.
Mission & Objectives
Ceemet and industriAll Europe believe that European-level sectoral social dialogue can contribute to improving the economic and business environment that supports the development of competitive and profitable companies, thereby also promoting sustainable employment and working conditions in the Metal, Engineering and Technology-based industries (MET).
The MET social partners have, since 2010, formally engaged in European sectoral social dialogue, supported by the European Commission. The sectoral social dialogue is organised in two working groups and comprises members from both organisations. Moreover, a Social Dialogue plenary meeting is organised once a year.
Social dialogue plenary meeting
The plenary gathers the experts of both working groups. At this meeting, the work programmes for the year to come are discussed and approved. The plenary also deals with the statutory issues of the social dialogue.
Furthermore, more political issues and important Commission policies and initiatives impacting the industries are also discussed. Topics such as the re-industrialisation of Europe, the future of social dialogue, the implications of the EU-USA trade deal on the industries, the benefits of the competitiveness fund for the industries, etc., have been part of the discussions during the last few years.
This plenary meeting meets once per year.
The Committee Co-Chair is Andreas Edenman (Teknikföretagen, Sweden), and it is coordinated by Isabel Sobrino Mate.
- Social Dialogue WG on Competitiveness & Employment
This working group discusses the impacts of the transformation of the industries and the economy on competitiveness and employment. This group gathers Ceemet and industriAll Europe experts on these topics.
More concretely, under this working group, the experts discuss issues such as digitalisation and its impact on the world of work, artificial Intelligence, the impact of the green transition on employment & competitiveness in the MET industries, the integration of migrants in the labour market, etc.
The working group Co-Chair is Federica Perriccioli (Assolombarda, Italy), and it is coordinated by Isabel Sobrino Mate.
- Social Dialogue Education & Training WG
Competitiveness is today intrinsically linked to having the right-skilled workforce. Likewise, a highly skilled mobile workforce is the basis for an internationally competitive industry that provides quality jobs.
In this context, the working group discusses skills policies, paying particular attention to the current skills gap and the importance of developing and securing a skilled workforce to keep industries moving forward.
To this end, Ceemet and industriAll Europe experts debate in-depth how to best ensure that workers are constantly trained throughout their careers to remain employable as well as for them to acquire the right set of skills adapted to present and future labour market needs, in particular in the midst of the green and digital transitions. A well-skilled workforce is a precondition for companies to succeed.
More concretely, under this working group, the experts discuss issues such as Skills policies; anticipating and forecasting skills needs, CVET, STEM policies, VET policies, career guidance, labour market relevant training, youth training, digital and green skills, etc.
This working group meets once per year.
The working group co-Chair is Leena Pöntynen (Technology Industries of Finland, Finland), and it is coordinated by Isabel Sobrino Mate.
