On 5th November 2024, Ceemet co-signed a joint industry statement on the implementation of the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D). In this letter, the 27 business associations highlight their concerns about the implementation and transposition phases of the CS3D.
In order to put administrative burden relief and simplification at the heart of the EU’ agenda, the business associations call for:
1. the immediate launch of a comprehensive competitiveness assessment of CS3D in consultation with businesses and their business associations, to identify and address priority areas where simplification, clarification and burden reduction.
2. the adoption of guidelines and implementing legislation at least two years before compliance with legislation becomes mandatory or the transition period.
3. the harmonisation and interoperability of rules that should remain key pillars in this phase to support Europe’s competitiveness and ensure a well-functioning Single Market.
In their statement, the signatories explain that without the respect of those recommendations, it would complexify the implementation of the CS3D by the companies, develop excessively burdensome provisions and de facto extend the scope of the CS3D which will once again endanger European competitiveness.
They urge the European Commission to ‘’closely monitor transposition measures whilst coordinating with the Member States to ensure that divergence with the Directive is minimised.’’
