ILO Tripartite consensus on wage policies including living wages

Between 19 and 23 February 2024, Ceemet participated, as part of the employers´ delegation, to the ILO tripartite meeting of experts on wage policies including living wages. The meeting was held in the ILO premises in Geneva.

During this meeeting, employer representatives at global level discussed the key principles and institutions of wage setting processes, the potential definition of a living wage and further exchanged information regarding the strengths and weaknesses of current living wages initiatives worldwide.

The methodologies to estimate living wages as well as the operationalisation of such wages was also subject of intense debates amongst the employers’ delegation.

The employers´ position was then conveyed in the ILO tripartite meeting gathering government and workers’ representatives. Following long negotiations, employers, workers and governments agreed on a series of key principles regarding living wages, including on the concept of a living wage and the need to carry out living wage-setting processes in the context of the national frameworks.

Ceemet welcomes the outcomes of the ILO experts meeting and in particular the tripartite consensus reached on living wages and is pleased to have actively taken part in the debates regarding this relevant topic. We are very satisfied with the insights provided by the employers´ group and we congratulate the IOE experts and the employers´ spokesperson for their remarkable work.
