The Commission launched within the framework of the European Pillar of Social Rights a first phase social partner consultation on a possible action addressing the challenges of access to social protection for people in all forms of employment in the framework of the European Pillar of Social Rights.
- The outcome of the debate on the future of Europe, and notably its social dimension, should be awaited before any initiative is taken by the European Commission in the field of social policy.
- This is in particular important with regards to a debate on social protection, a key area of Member State competence. The diversity and complexity of social protection and social security systems across the European Union need to be taken into account. Member States and national social partners are best placed, not only to correctly assess the access to social protection, but also to decide on whether, and if so which action is required.
