On 9 November 2022, Ceemet adopted its position paper on tackling labour and skills shortages in the MET industries. As all sectors of the economy, the MET industries are facing  the double and increasingly aggravated challenge of labour and skills shortages. Whereas skills shortages have been an issue for the MET industries for many years, labour shortages are more of a recent phenomenon.

Against this background, Ceemet would like to share its proposals on how to best address this  situation for MET companies as well as for the European economy and society.   The tech and industry employers recommend, amongst others, to put  in place well-designed legal migration policies, to invest in active labour market policies and  effective and well-designed career guidance, to boost mobility within the EU and to continue working on  the anticipation of  skills’ needs in order to ensure that  education and training programmes  deliver skills adapted to the  labour market.
